The annual Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is a national celebration of intellectual life in Canada. For over 75 years, Congress has been the meeting place for leading public intellectuals, authors, artists, researchers, scholars and students in the humanities and social sciences. It is the largest multidisciplinary academic gathering in Canada, attracting delegates from every province and territory, from every university and university-college, and from around the world.
Congress 2008 is being hosted by the University of British Columbia and is expected to be the largest conference yet, with over 9,500 delegates attending. The theme is Thinking Beyond Borders — Global Ideas: Global Values. This is an unprecedented opportunity to explore what it means to be global citizens and it’s particularly exciting that Congress is being held during UBC’s centennial year. Visible City Co-Director Janine Marchessault, and Research Associates Dana Iliescu and Aimée Mitchell will be presenting at the Annual Conference of the Film Studies Association of Canada (FSAC), which is held in conjuntion with Congress from June 2 to June 4, 2008.
