“Walking as a way of knowing, advocating and performing: between social justice and sustainability in Southern Ontario’s food movement”

This paper looks at the role of walking in Southern Ontario’s Food Movement, reflecting upon the tensions between mobility, sustainability and social justice in landscapes of local food production. Specifically, this paper considers marching as a form of public pedagogy for the rights of migrant workers involved in local food production, foraying as a way of knowing the intimate landscapes of fungi and, finally, the role of the procession in the performance of local food advocacy.

“Stars of the Town – Public Accessibility and the Digital Archive”

This paper focuses on Roy Massecar’s unique “Stars of the Town” film collection, donated to the University of Western Ontario Archives in 2005 and made fully accessible to the public. This amateur footage encapsulates rare scenes of everyday life during the 1940s in small town Southwestern Ontario, showing a way of life that would soon vanish into suburbia.
